On 13 October 2020, the BCO Network Support Facility (in partnership with the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development from the European Commission) organised a workshop on young people’s vision for rural areas and digitalisation. The event took place during the European Week of Regions and Cities and focused on the opportunities that digitalisation generates for rural territories.

One of the DESIRA partners from Ghent University, Michaël de Clercq, was invited to join as a speaker. Michaël opened the workshop by introducing the DESIRA project and presenting the preliminary results of the socio-economic assessment of digitalisation in rural Europe, and the state of rural digitalisation in the context of the EU Digital Single Market and Gigabit Society objectives.

The opening presentations were followed by a panel discussion amongst young representatives from the European Commission, the European Council of Young Farmers, the European Youth Parliament, and the Slow Food Youth Network.

More information on the event can be found here.

Michaël de Clercq also presented the preliminary results of DESIRA on the first meeting of the Rural Digitalisation Forum (see the presentation and watch the video).
